- POE 3.4 Shadow Assassin Rain of Arrows Build - High Damage & League Starter. This build choose Rain of Arrows to get good aoe. Rain of Arrows is a ranged attack skill that fires a number of arrows in the air, with each of them landing to deal area of effect over a short period of time.
- Apr 15, 2015 Staff - Physical Damage or Spell Damage. Light and heavy attacks with stavs scale off of spell damage. Easy way to verify.do a fully charged heavy attack, then do another fully charged heavy after using Entropy (which increase spell power by 20%). You should see the amount of damage.
- 3 – Why Ruthsless if Elemental attacks always give 50-200 more damage (based on your gems)? I gess it’s because of the phantasms again but I just don’t know. 4 – Why use wrath if we can apply the elemental equilibrium with arc/oos? 5 – If we go for no wrath do you think it is viable to use a full life/ES chest with 6link generosity?
- Sep 19, 2019 2) You can drop down to literally just having 1 Fevered Mind Jewel and no other mana increasing effects - increased attack speed becomes a good thing because you need to get enough self-damage to consistently proc desecrate, and make enough corpses to allow Corpse Pact to take over and buff your attack speed to the moon.
- Confirmed that crit chance and spell crit chance both work for spells. Dumb, really. Anyway, it's commonly stated that inc atk spd is considered the best damage boost, even more than pure spell dmg boosts. Grab them, get crit and work on high spell dmg nodes. Check the class specific PoE.

Poe Summon Phantasm Build
Hello exiles! I have a question regarding how damage works here. Mainly I want to know about spell damage. How it works? I mean, if I have a staff with 10% spell damage increase, which skills damage will it increase? Kinda logically thinking this would increase only castable skills, like fireball etc, but I am not sure about all that, so maybe some1 can clarify this for me. Also about elemental damages. If I have a Str based skill, let's say Ground Slam. I know that it has weapon damage based damage, but also it has some fire damage added, will spell damage increase do anything and will fire damage increase do anything? Also the same with Dex based skills, like Elemental hit. As the skill itself has only elemental damage, I would assume that even spell damage would do something, but I think that it won't help, if it does - tell me. And with that Elemental hit - if I have 20% fire dmg increase and I have added fire dmg increase support gem, will that 20% fire dmg increase add to that base fire dmg of the skill or also that support gem added damage. Also let's say I have a skill which has no fire dmg, but I add a support gem with fire dmg and also I have that 20% fire dmg increase on my wep - will it change anything? I know these are kinda many questions and they all are similar, but yeah, I just want to know how my damage is calculated, cause I just got my 1st Unique, which is a lvl13 staff with fire dmg and spell dmg increases and I was thinking about making a Templar, but I know that I will use Ground slam, maybe Elemental hit too, and Fireball skills + Fire traps. I wanted to know which of those skills will my Fire dmg increase and spell damage increase actually affect. Please, anyone who knows something about all this stuff, help me understand my damage. :P With best regards, TheEnforcer. streaming: twitch.tv/rogueyoshi youtube.com/rogueyoshi currency flipping web app: strongbox.rogueyoshi.com | Posted by on Jun 29, 2012, 12:50:17 AM |
That is a big ol' wall o' text you got there. Let's say you have a wand with innate 10% spell damage, a mod on it that has an additional 30% spell damage, a shield with 15% spell damage, 50% spell damage from skills and 25% increased fire damage. Spells that deal fire damage will now do (1 + 0.1 + 0.3 + 0.15 + 0.5 + 0.25)x damage. Aka: 230% damage. Cold/Lightning spells will only deal 205% damage (missing the 25% increased fire). ' Well, that is the part which I kinda understand myself. I mainly want to know what happens with Ground slam and Elemental hit. As Ele hit is dex skill, It shouldn't be affected by spell damage increases, as far as I understand, only elemental ones will add damage for, let's say, that Ele hit or Ground slam. streaming: twitch.tv/rogueyoshi youtube.com/rogueyoshi currency flipping web app: strongbox.rogueyoshi.com | Posted by on Jun 29, 2012, 1:07:53 AM |
Skills that deal damage based o n a weapon (Ground Slam, Elemental Hit, ect) are Attacks. Skills which are not attacks are Spells. Attacks deal Weapon Damage. Some attacks also deal Secondary Damage, which is not affected by weapon-specific modifiers, but is not spell damage. An example of this is Infernal Blow - the initial hit is weapon damage, and affected by anything that affects weapon/melee/insert-type-of-your weapon-here damage. The explosion is not based on your weapon damage - it's secondary damage. It's not affected by anything specific to weapons, but is affected by generic increases to all damage, or to specific types of damage it's dealing (usually fire, but other damage types can be added) Some spells deal no damage (auras, curses, etc). Spells which deal damage (usually) deal Spell Damage, which is affected by damage modifiers that increase/reduce spell damage. An exception would be Detonate Dead, which deals secondary damage (see above), and is thus not affected by spell-specific modifiers. This is both for balance, and because thematically the spell doesn't directly do damage, it causes a corpse to explode, and the corpse, rather than the spell directly, deals damage to nearby enemies. Please let me know if any of this is unclear and I will attempt to refine my explanation to the point you understand. | Posted by Mark_GGG on Jun 29, 2012, 1:27:59 AM |
Spells: List a critical chance on them. Attacks: Don't. | Posted by on Jun 29, 2012, 2:38:58 AM |
'Not entirely true - Secondary damage, being not based on a weapon, needs a critical strike chance from the skill as well, so attacks which deal secondary damage will list a critical strike chance. Infernal Blow does, and I believe Lightning Strike does as well - a holdover from an old version of the skill that dealt secondary damage which took a while to be noticed and removed - it's out in 0.9.11 | Posted by Mark_GGG on Jun 29, 2012, 2:42:37 AM |
' Thanks for the info. Now it's clear to me. I was kinda thinking the same, but wanted to be sure. And you explained the thing with 2ndary damages, I thought that they are affected by weapon specific modifiers. Thanks. :) streaming: twitch.tv/rogueyoshi youtube.com/rogueyoshi currency flipping web app: strongbox.rogueyoshi.com | Posted by on Jun 29, 2012, 9:50:47 AM |
' I find it easier to determine whether an ability is a Spell or Attack by checking if it has an 'Attack time' or a 'Casting time' on my action bar. | Posted by Ryjeon on Jun 29, 2012, 5:53:15 PM |
Completely new to the game (bored/frustrated with Diablo and have heard good things about PoE - enjoying so far), so I have a basic question. Is spell damage, cast time, and/or cast speed at all based on physical damage and/or weapon swing speed? | Posted by leroyyrogers on Jul 9, 2012, 4:40:53 AM |
no, spells such as fireball, sparks, ect. Do not benefit from a weapons dps or attack speed at all. However magic weapons and above can spawn with mods that can still effect spells. Such as spell damage, elemental damage (the % ones, not the dmg range ones) crit chance, ect. These mods can spawn on weapons (not just wands, the typical spell user weapon). | Posted by on Jul 9, 2012, 5:00:23 AM |

You can actually level with spectres fine. Just get I have been using flame sentinels since lvl 34 when i could equip wraithlord. Currently lvl 40. Last edited by kompaniet on Oct 14, 2018, 12:51:17 AM | Posted by kompaniet on Oct 14, 2018, 12:49:31 AM |
' Would be better if you wanted to level fast. You can go through an entire zone, only having to summon your Raging Spirits once if you path well enough. If you 6-link using a Tabula Rosa, bosses melt in seconds. I bring this up because while leveling I never have issues with spectres dying if paired with Summon Raging Spirits and Zombies. | Posted by on Oct 14, 2018, 3:27:10 AM |
I have srs in my tabula too. I use them to guide the flame sentinels to their targets. Flame sentinels attack whatever srs attack. | Posted by kompaniet on Oct 14, 2018, 11:04:35 AM |
' 'Hey, any boss that has a large damaging aoe usually dumpsters a lot of minion builds.' Can confirm - my old 6m DPS Melee Skele build can crush the entire game EXCEPT Uber Elder because of the AOE spam :D I'm now running CWDT (lv1) / Desecrate (lv7) / Spell Cascade / Desecrate (lv20) so I can auto-cast Desecrate AND self-cast. It has been helping a lot, especially in Delve boss fights. I can literally just run around in circles until everything is dead. However you do have to watch the cooldown as it's sometimes hard to see it go off and it shares a cooldown with the self-cast version. I suspect I'll have an easier time with the trickier bosses once I've finished optimizing my gear. Getting the 6ex for Kaoms and the Might of the Meek jewels took some time but make a big difference. Noob here. Can I use a similar build as scion or will I lose too much minion damage if I do that? | Posted by grillmeister999 on Oct 16, 2018, 1:47:01 AM |
' A scion variant PoB is available on the first post at the bottom. I'm running it myself. The damage is not mind-blowing, but it's certainly enough, and I personally find the extra tankiness worth it. That said, my jewels don't have much minion damage on them at the moment, so I suspect after I start improving them the damage output will be really good. | Posted by Thauma on Oct 16, 2018, 3:16:46 AM |
' Hey, sorry for the little late reply. Skele's feel a bit better for me, the reason I only use 5l skeles is so I can Keep 21 phantasms around. Controlled destruction is better until you can't one shot an enemy pack then I think minion speed takes over. glad to hear you're both enjoying it. | Posted by on Oct 17, 2018, 4:14:08 AM |
I still love this build. I have a couple questions about mechanics if anyone knows. If I cast an offering and spawn phantasms, do they even gain the offering benefit since they were spawned after the cast? So if I desecrate + offering 2x to get my army up, does only the 1st group get buffed by the 2nd cast? I've also noticed that my spectre doesn't keep stacks of frenzy up all the time. If he's actually punching stuff he only casts 1 charge and then it runs out and he casts 1 charge again. But if he's 'in combat' like close to a wall with enemies on the other side, but not fighting anything, he will cast it every 5s. He is linked to BM and for a little bit i ran with 2 chieftains and we had 3 charges all the time. These interactions are making me wonder if I'm getting as much benefit from them as I think I am. | Posted by parabolicity on Oct 17, 2018, 9:08:05 PM |
You can have one offering 'active' at a time. While an offering is active, all minions under your control receive the buff. Therefore, even minions created before the offering is cast will get buffed. Spectre needs blood magic to cast Frenzy regularly. Generally it will prioritise buffing the party instead of melee attacks, but as a general rule you'll want to keep it out of enemy range if possible to maximise this. | Posted by Thauma on Oct 17, 2018, 9:31:56 PM |
Thanks for the reply, I assumed offerings worked like that for existing minions. I'm more interested in how the offerings work with the phantasms in particular, since using an offering destroys corpses which then spawn new phantasms. It seems like only half the phantasms would ever gain the offering effect. | Posted by parabolicity on Oct 17, 2018, 10:01:27 PM |
